Tree of Life
The Tree of Life is the first and oldest promise of immortality known to mankind. The Book of Genesis says as follows: "And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil."
In Hebrew, the tree is known as "Etz Ha Haim". However, the symbolism of the Tree of Life isn't limited to Judaism. Many different cultures and religions around the world perceive the Tree of Life as a symbol of birth, fertility, and immortality.
Ancient Egyptians believed the first deities in human form, Isis and Osiris, were born through the Acacia tree deep in the desert. Similar beliefs can be found among Native Americans, European Pagans, and even Chinese traditions. Ancient Germanic and Nordic people worshiped trees, and so did Celtic Druids.
The Tree of Life is a central concept in Kabbalah, the mystical aspect of Judaism. In Kabbalistic teachings, the Tree of Life has ten branches, or Sephirot, which are the ten attributes of God.
Tree of Life charms are based on Kabbalistic drawings, and are used by many believers to connect us to the center of life, to root us in God's reality. These unique charms are made of precious metals and resemble a large oak or olive tree. They represent the cycle of life, the journey from roots to leaves, and then back to the ground as ripe fruits.
